Kinetic Art Lab

with Gary Parkins

Skill Level: Beginner– Intermediate

 

Make art that lights up! Sizzle with sound. Mesmerize with Movement!

Students explore fundamental principles to incorporate light, sound and movement into their artworks or projects. Basic materials are provided, but students are encouraged to bring in secondhand electronics and gadgetry for experimentation. General hand tools are provided to practice preparing, soldering and assembling kinetic projects.

 

Make Your Art Sing: The Art Safe Circuit Bending

with Gary Parkins 

Date: May 14 (Saturday)
Time: 10:30-1:30pm

Fees:  $45/FAC Member $40.50

Skill Level: Beginner– Intermediate

 

Before donating outdated electrical items, explore the secret sounds lurking within and unleash “their ability to sing” with safe circuit bending. Students are encouraged to bring in discarded electronics: computers, hand mixers, stereos, clock radios, keyboards and video games to explore the broad range of sounds that can be created with circuit bending.  Some electronic sound equipment will be provided to experiment on. Special focus will be placed on safe personal practices, as well as how to change circuitry without damaging electronic components. Hand tools and general materials will be available for use.

 

About the Instructor:

Gary Parkins is an international artist that has provided complex technical assistance for Art luminaries such as Edward Kienholz and Susan Stockwell. Gary’s current works utilize crude machines that he makes on location. He combines motors and parts into contraptions that ultimately produce drawings by moving networks of pens, or sculptures by manipulating heated materials. Website www.garyparkins.com
